Trails

trail trail

The trail is a beautiful, often single-track, trail that parallels the Natchez Trace Scenic Parkway. Shoes or other hoof protection is strongly recommended as the trails can be rocky and there is some dirt/gravel road. Endurance riders will have the opportunity to see almost the entire Natchez Trace Scenic Trail system between Williamsport and Leiper's Fork, TN. Because we are using almost the entire northern horse trail system in this year’s ride, the course will consist of an out-and-back with an additional dirt road loop. There will be two-way traffic and road crossings. All road/pavement crossings will be clearly marked.

Tunnel Tunnel

On one loop, there is a short tunnel that takes the riders under the Natchez Trace Scenic Highway. This tunnel has to be negotiated. Any rider that crosses over the Trace Highway will be disqualified.

Bridge

There are several wooden bridges placed along the trail. These bridges are safe for horses. Please walk across the bridges. There will be temporary signs warning of up-coming bridges.

The trails are public trails and can be quite popular. Please be aware that other riders will be on trail. Please be courteous and slow to a safe speed when passing trail riders or when your sight distance is limited. This is also a hiking trail, so you may encounter hikers, including small children, especially close to various parking lots along the trail system. Bikes are not allowed on the trail, but you and your horse may see them, as well as motorcycles, traveling the Natchez Trace Scenic Highway.

At no time will the trail actually cross the Natchez Trace Scenic Parkway. The trail will always be routed to safely cross under or over the Trace on local side roads.

Crewing is not allowed on the Natchez Trace Scenic Parkway. There are plenty of opportunities to crew along the local roads.
